Amendments for survival kit

Hi all,

Please find below some amendments that must be made to the Post-Prelim Survival Kit (found in section labelled "Essays from Term 3 Revision Programme"). Refer to your lecture notes on the relevant sections if you are unsure.

1. AJC Preliminary Examination 2007 Essay Question 5(b)

- The explanation for the point on negative impact labelled "structural unemployment" is inaccurate. Please change the analysis of that point so that it address comparative advantage, and how workers who've lost their jobs in industries without CA cannot gain employment in industries with CA due to a mismatch of skills.

2. Market Structure N2007 H2 Essay Question 2(b)

- The diagram for "natural monopoly" is not accurate. The diagram in the answer shows the case of a normal monopoly. In such a situation, MC pricing can be adopted because the average revenue is still higher than average cost, i.e. the firm will be able to make profits.

- The correct diagram for "natural monopoly" should be the one with downward sloping MC and AC, with MC below AC. (For information only, refer to your lecture notes if you are unsure.) In such a case, MC pricing cannot be adopted as the firms will incur losses since average costs will be higher than average revenue. As such, the compromise for a natural monopoly is to adopt AC pricing so that they make at least normal profits.

3. International Trade / ROG N2007 H2 Essay Question 5(a)

- The explanation in the last paragraph on Page 1 is inaccurate. Fourth line from the bottom should read "export revenue decreases and import expenditure increases".

- The explanation in the penultimate paragraph on Page 2 is inaccurate. Sixth line from the top should read "The domestic economy would increase demand for imports more than proportionately to the rise in income..."

4. International Trade / Foreign Exchange N1996 Part (a)

- The explanation in the second paragraph on Page 2 is inaccurate. Fifth line from the top should read "Likewise, the quantity demanded of Japanese goods will increase more than proportionately."

That's about all that I've managed to identify so far. Thanks to those students who came to clarify these at consultation sessions. If you notice anything "strange" in the survival kit, please let me know so that I can confirm and make amendments if necessary.

This post is meant for people of class 25/07, for whom i have started to appreciate. Let me start by a story. [i'm sorry if this gets a little bit long-winded, it's just the emo in my nerves]

I went for my old clique chalet yesterday and to tell you honestly i wasn't enjoying it, instead i was dreading every minute. And from then on, i realise that it's no longer worth my time to dwell on my past and try to win the favour of old friends back just for the sake of doing it lar. It's more worth spending the time with people who you spend most time with.
And that's why i thought of 25/07!!
Since i spend most of my time with people from AJC, i might as well start embracing my environment. Truthfully, in the beginning i wasn't too keen with building strong friendship with any of you because i was too immersed in keeping my past alive. But the problem then comes when only 2 of your schoolmates are in the same school, while 70 others are in another school miles away. It doesn't help that these 70 start forgetting the other 3 in the other school.
So it was my bad that i was very reluctant to be friendly with some, and i was kinda DAO to some extent lar. So i apologise for my very bad behaviour.

It was only from the chalet that i unfortunately attended yesterday that i realise i have to prioritise and know which group of people to treasure most.
And i can certainly say now that it's people from 25/07! haha.
So this post is just to tell you guys that although i am abit distant from some, but i realise your importance to my life and well, you help sculpt me into a better person in one way or another.
Of course, i can't be close friends with everyone, but from today onwards i will treat everyone with an open heart=) no more reluctance.

It's kind of nice that i brought this up today on this blog.
Because i was really bothered lar.
And letting it out was good.
So if you want to slam me for my bad behaviour, the tagboard is all yours for your profanities, i shall be undefensive and be nice.

Dear All,

Thank you for volunteering for our upcoming event. As the date draws nearer, we are into the last part of preparation now. There will be about 70 families and 100 special needs persons attending this event. Attached please find the Programme Schedule and a Flow Chart of what will be happening next Saturday.

As you have volunteered in classes, some of the committees are in excess of volunteers. Therefore we need to shift some of you to cover duties that need volunteers. We really want the volunteers to feel useful on event day by giving everyone some duties to do, instead of standing around.

Pre-Event Preparation:

We need help on Friday 23 May for (a) Pre-registration i.e. fill-in forms - Registration committee, (b) Logistic helpers to arrange tables and chairs - Liaison Committee please come and help as we only have limited Logistic Helpers, (c) Data entry briefing for Data entry volunteers. Is Friday 4.00pm - 5.30pm ok?

From Registration Class :

1) We do not need so many people in Registrations. We only need 10 persons to help in the morning prior the Seminar

2) Please assign 6 Volunteers to usher the 6 Special Needs Student Photographers around during the whole event, i.e. from registration, to seminar, to sports demonstration, to health screening. Basically stay with these special photographers throughout. They are adults aged 19 - 25, from Association for Persons with Special Needs Centre for Adults (APSN CFA). They love photography and would like to submit the photos taken to put into their centre's newsletters.

Please give me the names of the above 6 volunteers.

3) We need about 8 - 10 guys to help in logistics instead. We need your help to carry tables and benches and arrange the area the day before, i.e. Friday late afternoon. On event day, we will need your help to clear apparatus during the event and sports demonstrations.

From Data Entry Classes :

1) We do not need so many people in Data Entry. Only need 8 for keying in details, and 5-6 runners to collect the forms from the 5 different health screening areas

2) We need to move 10 of you to help the Games committee as they are short of manpower. There will be 10 Games Stalls in the canteen area. The Games stalls will operate from 9am - 10.30am only. So most of your work will be prior the event, in preparation of the Games stalls, and clearing up after 10.30am. I will be meeting the Games Committee on Tuesday at 4.45pm. Please come for this meeting to discuss further.

Ushers/ F & B Committee, Liaison Officers Committee : No changes

Games Committee : Short of manpower

Please send me an updated namelist of volunteers who will be coming on event day, and include a remarks column for duties:
1) Indicate who from Registration Committee will be doing Registration, Photographer Buddies and Logistics Helpers.
2) Indicate who from Data Entry will transfer to Games Stalls.

With the above information, i will be able to send all of you a more detailed duty list, hopefully by Thursday, so that you will know exactly what to do, where to stand, at what time etc....

This is really important, because there are specific seats assigned to our class, and the school authorities will know if our chairs appear empty OR the attire of the people occupying these seats are shoddy. Please have a light / normal lunch, but be reminded that a reception will be held and food will be provided to those attending.

Under No Roof is an annual camp organized by Habitat for Humanity to raise public awareness and garner support for global poverty housing and homelessness, particularly among the youth. Allowing one to experience how life is like without having a basic shelter over their heads, UNR is a rare opportunity for Singaporeans to embark in a 2 day 1 night camp that immerses them in the global issue of poverty.

Participants from all walks of life will come together in a bid to express their support for the people entrapped in poverty, and experience building houses out of scrap materials. All participants will stand a chance to travel to China to help needy families build or repair their homes. This building expedition will give each team member an opportunity to personally witness and contribute to the effort to eliminate poverty housing throughout the world.

I am Wei Sheng from 20/07, and together with my 4 team-members, we are organising an event for Festival of Life. The details are as follow *( please help to forward this email to all your classmates as well ) :

We will be having a Interhouse Fashion Design Competition held on the 8th of April, in lieu of Aesthetic Week.

It is compulsory to for all class to submit at least 1 design draft. (we do welcome more copies)
Deadline of submission draft will be on the 27th of March (next Thursday)
Class leader to take charge. This can be a form of class bonding as well.

Morning announcement will be made on the 27th of March for class leaders to submit their design drafts.
We will choose 10 of the best pieces of design by 29th of March, Saturday, 2 from each house ( 1 from JC1, 1 from JC 2 ) to compete in the grand final on the 8th of April.
The 10 finalists will be notified via sms on Saturday

Finalists will have to work on their designs and make the actual costumes (preferably using recycled materials since materials will be bought within your own expenses)
• Two representatives from each of the ten classes for the finals
1) The model to showcase the costume
2) The narrator to introduce the design(2-3mins)

Of the 10 finalists, top 3 winners and the most enthusiastic house will be awarded house points and attractive prizes.
So do put in your best effort as a class and as a house and show your talent!

- As a class, your can sketch out the design and provide a short write-up about what your design stands for, and what materials it will be made up of. 1) Complete planning and writing of the area of research (politics) – power point presentation on 22nd Feb. [group of 4]

2) Write response to article "Eastern and Western Ideals of Happiness" [individual work][article was given out on 15th Feb after math lecture]. Hand up by 22nd Feb.

3) Complete and hand in comprehension exercise one [pair work] IF you have not done so.[the one on marriage]

4) Complete fact book. Will be collected.

Class Outing Confirmation

It will be this Friday, 15th Feb 2008 after Cross Country.
Please do make yourself available on that day, because we have yet to have a proper class outing, so please put in the effort!
By the way, on Friday, we will definitely be released late as we're the organising class. So for those who have to report to their parents, please tell them beforehand of your possible late arrival at home.

Let's have an enjoyable outing. =)

OK people, due to enormous number of people who are missing from school today and due different schedules, our planned class outing is definitely cancelled.
But of course we can always plan for the future!
haha.
